Strauss’ full signature on a small cream colored card with a blind-embossed border. ********** Earning a reputation as both a conductor and a prolific composer of tone poems and lieder, Strauss shocked audiences in 1905 with his opera Salome, a German version of Oscar Wilde’s play of the same name. The opera’s salacious nature increased its popularity and it was such a financial success that Strauss built a villa in Garmisch with the proceeds. His subsequent operatic successes included Elektra and Der Rosenkavalier. ********** With some light surface staining. Mounting traces on the verso. In fine condition.
