Memphis, TN, USALive Auction
This handsome 14-karat gold Geneve quartz men's watch, with gold textured face and bezel to match the gold braided band, was given to the head pharmacist at Schwab's Pharmacy in Hollywood. The popular drugstore on Sunset Boulevard was frequented by movie actors and one such star was Elvis Presley. The watch was gifted by Elvis to Mr. Meyers, head pharmacist in the '70s. The watch is offered with a letter from Barbara Harper (Meyers) in which she recounts the story told to her by her father: "According to my father, Elvis would occasionally come in and talk with him about various medications and their possible reactions. He said Elvis was always very polite and considerate. Elvis gave my father several gifts during their friendship including a gold TCB pendant, two rings, a gold Geneve watch and a personalized autograph for me on Schwab's stationary [sic]." The pharmacist may have given Elvis his time and advice, while Elvis in return gave him a gift to keep track of that precious time. The watch weighs 58.7 grams with the movement, measures 7 1/2 inches (19.05 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
Condition Report: The watch shows signs of use and wear, including minor scuffing and a few very minor scratches. It appears to be in working condition, but could probably benefit from servicing. Excellent condition.
