October 29, 2016
Memphis, TN, USALive Auction
Three young fans had the time of their life when Elvis visited Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and performed at the Civic Center Arena on June 25 and 26, 1974. Shirley, her sister Linda, and Linda's friend Janet, who knew Elvis personally, were treated to VIP status that weekend and chronicle their experiences in a double-sided handwritten letter by Linda and a steno notebook page handwritten by Shirley. Linda recounts in detail how her friend Janet, a flight attendant who knew Elvis from her many times in Vegas, was invited to join Elvis and his entourage at the Hilton Hotel and the concert. Janet and Linda spent a memorable weekend giving Kenny, Red and Kang Rhee a tour of Pittsburgh in Janet's Cadillac and she continues to relay the adventures of that once-in-a-lifetime experience. The result of this escapade is the offered signed promotion poster with a bold red ink handwritten inscription, "To Janet from Elvis Presley" across the center on Elvis' belt. The poster, with printed black signature "Thanks Elvis" on the front, has a handwritten blue ink inscription on the reverse in the upper left corner "June 25, 1973 Civic Arena / Monday night Pittsburgh, PA." The story that Shirley and Linda recount in their letters that accompany this poster are enough to make any fan go weak at the knees. An adventure that certainly no young female Elvis fan could ever forget. The poster measures 28 by 20 1/2 inches (71.12 x 52.07 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
