Throughout his life, Elvis was fascinated by religions and spirituality, and as an avid reader he owned many books on a variety of religious subjects. Offered is a copy of what became one of Elvis' favorite books, The Prophet, by Lebanese-American writer and philosopher Kahlil Gibran. Originally published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1923, the popularity of the book steadily increased over the years, with the millionth copy sold in 1957. Elvis was known to keep extra copies on hand to give away to friends and acquaintances. This copy of The Prophet from Elvis' library is being sold with a copy of The Horizon History of Christianity that was personally-owned by Elvis. The Horizon History of Christianity, the comprehensive account by noted scholar Ronald H. Bainton, was first published in 1964 and is still in print today as a valuable resource and guide to Christianity as a whole, its effects throughout history, its development over time and its impact on the human race. The Avon Library series paperback book, with its red cover and large image of a bejeweled cross, measures 7 by 4 inches (17.78 x 10.16 cm). The Prophet, a book of poetry, prose and fables, measures 8 1/4 by 5 3/4 inches (20.95 x 14.60 cm). These books, favorite references of Elvis', are offered with a letter from Elvis' cousin, Billy Smith, and a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
Condition Report: The Prophet is in excellent condition overall with expected wear and small tears towards the upper edge of the dust jacket. The paperback, The Horizon History of Christianity, is in overall excellent condition with minor discoloration from age and slightly worn edges from use.
