Empire Brass Mounted Morocco Leather Dressing Case
Early 19th century
The hinged stepped rectangular top centered by an outspread winged eagle within a bowtied ribbon laurel wreath and four oak leaf and acorn motifs and a repousse border of military trophies, scrolling acanthus leaves and flowerheads, the coved sides with acanthus leaves, the corners with plumed crowns, opening to a later silk lined interior, the inside lid apparently original, with a mirror and gilt-metal border with and blue mica-like frame, the corners mounted with bees, the case mounted at the sides with carrying handles. Height 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), width 20 1/2 inches (52 cm), depth 15 inches (38.2 cm).
