Artist or Maker: Vivian Lau (Hong Kong, b. 1950)
Literature: From 1982 to 2002, Vivian Lau learned and refined her painting style with Master Lin Jen Tong (Chinese painting), Master Chan Pui Leuk (Sung Yuen style) and Master Law Kun Chiu (figure painting). Although she has learned from these different masters and hence acquired various techniques, Vivian Lau has developed her own style with strong personality and characteristics. With few light brush strokes, no heavy ink, subdued color tones and some light embellishments, she expresses her perception of beauty. Her paintings are fresh, intimate and feminine with influences from her life in the West and in Asia. Her work gives the viewers the feeling of comfort and peace.
