Description: 18th century AD. A brass balance arm with two pans to weigh coins, with three knobbed circular weights for the guinea, half guinea and quarter guinea each bearing the weight in grains and pennyweights and an official mark of 'anchor'; contained in the original japanned metal oval metal box with hinged lid, lined internally with silk and felt, the weights held in a drilled wood block retained by a metal strip. See Sheppard & Musham, fig.38, 6 for case layout pattern and no.81 for a very similar set. 115 grams total, box 13cm long. . Ex Swiss collection; acquired London, 1980s. The gold quarter guinea coin, with a face value of five shillings and three pence, was only issued in the years 1718 (George I) and 1762 (George III). [No Reserve]

Condition Report: Fine condition. Scarce with the quarter guinea weight included.
