NOTE
Benjamín Palencia was at the forefront of the Spanish avant garde and the founder of the school of Vallecas, which sought to re-interpret the Castilian landscape anew. This intense and powerful view of Toledo, distinguished by vigorous forms and strong colours, is a clear example of the artist's mature period in which he carried out numerous exhibitions throughout Spain.
In 1980 he staged his last exhibtion in the Galerias Biosca in Madrid, where the present work was most probably purchased.
