Description: ''View of the Roman Campagna'', signed, inscribed and dated lower right: Fedor (sic) Matveeff fecit Roma 1796, oil on canvas laid to panel, 58'' H x 72.25'' W, est: $70,000/90,000.
Condition Report: Visual: Stable craquelure throughout. Tacking edges removed when mounted and black tape applied to the edges. An area of canvas lifting (with no associated loss) in the lower left quadrant near the lower edge. Blacklight: Extensive touch-up along the entire upper edge and in the upper left and right quadrants. A few other scattered spots of touch-up no larger than a quarter throughout the sky. Small scattered areas and spots of touch-up in the left center to the center, the largest area is located in the center measuring approximately 1'' x 1.5''. Two areas, one approximate 4'' x 7'' and the other approximately 2'' x 5'', of tiny dots of touch-up possibly to stabilize and address flaking. Crack fill and scattered touch-up throughout the center and lower left and right. The white pigment on the water areas fluoresces unevenly under blacklight but this is presumed to be in the hand of the artist. Areas of uneven varnish, particularly evident on the trees in the upper right and left center.
