This 124 Sport Spider was delivered new to the USA. Due to its perfect state of preservation, it was given the new condition by a master bodywork maker, as he used it as the basis of a comprehensive reconstruction. The restoration was comprehensively documented, pictures on a CD are available and will be included in the delivery.
The Fiat 124 was introduced to the public as sedan and convertible in spring 1966. The four-door sedan immediately won the title “Car of the Year“. The 124 was very popular from the beginning on, so that FIAT decided to increase the model family, the coupé of the Fiat 124 Spider was available as of in 1967.
The body of the 124 Spider comes from the designer Tom Tijaarda, who was also in charge of the DeTomaso Mangusta. The timelessly elegant Spider was built as Fiat from mid 1966 to summer 1982, from then on it was produced as Pininfarina 2000 until 1985. In order to adjust to market needs, the FIAT 124 Spider was slightly modified in spring 1969 and in summer 1972, the 2 liter engine was introduced in 1979 and an injection engine was offered from 1982 on. This car still has the original body shape as it was built until 1973 and is considered the most sought-after variant. Some 131.763 units of the 124 Spider were made by 1973. (kre)
