The Fiat 500 designed by Dante Giacosa doubtlessly is a vintage car classic in the small car class. In order to distinguish it from its predecessor with the same name, the 'Topolino', it was called 'Nuova 500'; the 'New' and the 'Topolino' had no technical similarities, because the since 1957 built 500 has a air cooled 2-cylinder engine in the rear. Including the station wagon version 'Giardiniera' and several special models a total of 3.702.078 units of the Fiat 500 were built between 1957 and 1977. In 1965 the type D was replaced by the model F with 13 kW (18 PS), where the door hinges are in the front in the A-pillar. Until 1968 615,351 units were built. (bde)
