Description:
Rare Colt Belt Model Paterson No.2 Revolver manufactured in 1838. The revolver is complete with an original factory case, extra cylinder, bullet mold, combination tool, cleaning rod, brass ammunition charger, pistol capper and key. The revolver has a full blue finish with two-piece, straight, flat-bottom walnut grips. The barrel has a flared lug, eleven groove rifling and a german silver front sight blade. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "- Patent Arms M'g Co Paterson N-J Colt's Pt.-". The square back, five-shot cylinder is roll-engraved with the centaur scene. The recoil shield does not have a capping cut-out. The hammer spur is not knurled. The serial number, "246" is visible on the wedge, breech end of the barrel, the trigger, hammer, breech end of the cylinder, and the right grip butt. All of the visible serial numbers match. The factory case is varnished mahogany with beveled edges and german silver mountings. The lid is inlaid with a rectangular german silver plate with scalloped ends engraved with beautiful script initials "J.R.C.". The case is lined with deep purple velvet and has indentations for the spare cylinder, bullet mold and charger and wire retainers for the combination tool, cleaning rod and capper. Consigner notes state that the case and accessories were purchased separately from the revolver. The square-back, five-shot spare cylinder is numbered "59/9" on the breech end and is roll-engraved with the centaur scene and "COLT" markings. The iron, single cavity, round ball bullet mold has turned wooden handles on both blocks and the spruce cutter and the domed pin is numbered "190". The Paterson Belt and Pocket Model size combination tool is blued and has the desirable "-Patent Arms M'g Co N-J" marking on the shaft. The cleaning rod has a 4 -7/8 inch brass shaft with serrated end and a turned mahogany knob with brass ferrule. The brass, first pattern Paterson pistol capper has a gilt finish and features a Rampant Colt above crossed revolvers in high relief of the lid. The Rampant Colt is surrounded by a double border and the legend: "COLTS PATENT/PATENTARMS MANg Co PATERSON.N.J.". The inside of the capper lid and the body are stamped with an assembly number "104". The plated, copper, brass-mounted Belt Model ammunition charger has cast rosettes on the turning rings. The center brass band is roll-stamped: "-Patent Arms M'g Co Paterson N-J Colt's Pt.-". The charger top and body are stamped with the assembly or batch number "87".
