Description: 1874, 1885 PARIS. 1. Action de F6500, gold, blue, buff & black, 1874. 2. Part de F4000, unissued, 1885. The Paris printing-house of Didot started in 1713. His descendants created new types of printing-paper and new styles of type. Jules Didot transported the printing business to Brussels, sold it to the Belgian government, and it became the Imprimerie Royale. The business continued in Paris, enjoying a high reputation for quality printing of important works. Firmin Didot (1764-1836) was an engraver and creator of typefaces without rival. He invented 'stéreotypie', printing with re-usable plates. This company was formed by his two sons. The activities of the company are listed on the certificates. They includes various forms of printing, also a paper-mill, ink-factory, etc. Its office was in Paris, rue Jacob - an area with many antique bookshops today.
