Book Details: The first USS Columbia of the United States Navy was a three-masted, wooden-hulled sailing frigate of the US Navy, rated for 50 guns. She was a flagship for numerous expeditions until the American Civil War, when she was scuttled to avoid her capture by Confederate forces at Norfolk.
Condition / Notes: This contains volume I and II of this work, bound as one. The antique volume is bound in blindstamped cloth covers with stamped gilt lettering/illustration on the front cover and spine. There is rubbing and chipping to the spine and the edges. The binding is sound. The pages show light to moderate foxing. Each volume contains a tissue-guarded, engraved frontispiece. The second volume also contains a hand-colored engraved portrait (with tissue guard) of "The Present Emperor of China." The work also includes numerous textual and full-page illustrations.
