Description: Estimate: $12000 - 18000 Manufactured 1918 this is a mint example of a rare special order Winchester Model 1885 Low Wall Winder Takedown Musket. The included factory letter confirms the takedown musket configuration, caliber, 30 inch No. 1 barrel and 44-A rear sight. The rifle was received in the warehouse on January 17, 1818 and shipped from the warehouse on January 22, 1918. The letter also states "the Winchester Archives indicates that only five arms of this type were made." The rifle is equipped with a standard blade front sight and folding ladder rear sight. The left side of barrel is marked with the two line Winchester address/patent dates and the caliber designation "22 SHORT" at the breech. The Winchester oval proof is marked on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The three line Winchester patent date, trade mark is stamped on the upper tang. Blue finish with casehardened hammer, breech block and lever, and mounted with a smooth full walnut Model 1873 Musket style forearm and straight grip stock with a steel carbine style buttplate and sling swivels. BBL: 30 inch round Stock: walnut Gauge: 22 short Finish: blue Grips: Serial Number: 107633 Condition: Excellent plus. The rifle retains 99% bright original blue finish with extremely minor flaking on the receiver. Almost all of the original case colors remain on the hammer, breech block and lever. The wood is also excellent plus with a few minor dents and handling marks. The markings are sharp. The action is excellent. Writer cannot recall ever seeing a Model 1885 quite like this example; quite possibly from the Winchester Collection as it is truly rare being one of only five manufactured!

Buyer Premium: All bid prices "hammer prices" (means the price at which a lot is knocked down to the purchaser) will be subject to a buyer's premium payable by the purchaser of 17.5% of the bid price. There is a 2.5% discount for payment with cash, approved check or wire transfer. The premium is added to your successful bid and the two together equal the total purchase price.
At the announcement of "SOLD", the highest bidder will have purchased the offered lot. This purchase is subject to all the terms and conditions set forth herein. The purchaser assumes full responsibility thereof and if requested will sign a confirmation of the purchase. The purchaser further agrees to pay the purchase price, buyer's premium and any applicable taxes before any lot may be transferred. All items purchased by successful bidders must be paid for in full the day of sale. All items purchased by absentee bidders must be paid for in full immediately upon notification.
Taxes: Some items are exempt from Illinois sales tax and others may be subject to Illinois sales tax or local sales tax. The tax is computed on the total purchase price. To establish a tax free sale, a copy of a valid resellers permit or other instrument of information must be provided to our satisfaction establishing a sales tax exemption. Any purchaser claiming an exemption yet unable to provide proof will be required to pay the tax to us and seek a refund from the State of Illinois. Generally, all items shipped out of state are tax free sales. We have been authorized by the consignor to retain as part of our remuneration, the premium payable by the purchaser.
