Description: FLEMISH SCHOOL
(17th century)
THE ASCENSION OF THE VIRGIN
Oil on canvas
25 1/4 x 38 3/4 in. (64.1 x 98.4cm)
provenance:
Private Collection, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Condition Report: the relined canvas is not quite as dark in tone or as richly saturated in actuality (in our opinion) as it appears in the auction catalogue. The painting is somewhat difficult to accurately 'read' under u.v. light due to residual varnish and pigments used. It has a relatively high gloss finish; apparently in generally good overall condition - it is possible there is some restoration under the varnish not immediately apparent

Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging. Interested bidders are strongly encouraged to request a condition report on any lots upon which they intend to bid, prior to placing a bid. All transactions are governed by Freeman's Conditions of Sale.
