Oil on canvas, relined
Flemish School, c. 1700
Dimensions: 138 x 168.5 cm
Frame: 140.5 x 170.5 cm
Provenance: Private collection, Belgium
The painting shows the influences of the painter Jacob Herreyn from Antwerp (1643-1732), whose paintings feature a combination of the traditional Rubens style with contemporary French influences.
The painting is overall strongly discolored; partially with craquelure. It bears two horizontal and one vertical running crease probably because parts of the canvas had been stitched together resp. the canvas had been folded. There is partially loss of color in this parts. At the upper edge on the right a part of the canvas had been added. There are overall a lot of small and a few large losses of color; the latter mainly affecting Christ as well as lower left and lower right. Lower left the canvas is detached from the frame. The painting had been varnished and it is framed by wooden stripes. (msc)
