Provenance: Private collection, Belgium
Painting presenting a group of peasants in a tavern in the tradition of the Flemish artist who was primarily famous for his genre scenes: The figure of the boy at the right edge shows exemplary that the painter was guided by works of Tenier II. as the boy turns around towards the peasants while walking away.
The painting is in good condition, consistent with age. There are rubbed spots in some places to the edges. Under UV light are old retouched spots at the right and at the lower edge. Further several tiny retouched spots can be seen in the part of the figures as well as along an old cracking and in the left part in the background are tiny losses of color. The frame shows losses of color and scattered old worm holes and the corners are partly little open. (msc)
