Description: REPORTS OF THE COMMITTEE ON THE CONDUCT OF THE WAR. FORT PILLOW MASSACRE. RETURNED PRISONERS. Washington, 1864. Senate Issue. 8vo. 128; 34, and 4 leaves of woodcuts depicting emaciated soldiers returned from captivity (captions on verso.) Original brown textured cloth with title in gilt to front board, some light soiling to cloth and small chips along spine and corners. Contents clean overall though with some small marginal stains to one section. Very Good. ***************************************** Contains testimony from witnesses of the Battle of Fort Pillow (April 12, 1864) during the American Civil War. The battle ended in the massacre of Union troops who were attempting to surrender. The final report contained in this work deals with the condition of returned prisoners of war. [Sabin 25164]
