Description: FRAGMENT DE TETE REPRESENTANT LOUIS XIV
Hauteur: 16 cm. (6¼ in.), Hauteur totale: 27 cm. (10¾ in.)

Notes: No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT payable at 19.6% (5.5% for books) will be added to the buyer’s premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis

A BRONZE FRAGMENTARY HEAD OF LOUIS XIV WORKSHOP OF FRANCOIS GIRARDON (1628-1715), LATE 17TH OR EARLY 18TH CENTURY
With elaborate perruque and his head turned to sinister, on a modern wooden support and circular ebonised wood socle, the underside with the remains of a paper label; dark brown patina with chocolate high points
The head offered here appears to have come from the same mould as a variant model of Girardon's equestrian bronze of Louis XIV in the Prado Museum, Madrid (illustrated in M. Martin, Les Monuments équestres de Louis XIV, Paris, 1986, p. 115, no. 62).
