Description: Louis Auguste de ( Duc de Maine) Commission appointing Sieur des Lauriers as Sous-Lieutenant de la Compagnie de Mineurs, document signed on vellum, 14 lines, 2 slits, little marked, c.245 x 320 mm., Versailles, 16 Dec ., 1709 Louis Auguste de Bourbon, Duc de Maine (1670 -1736), legitimised son of Louis XIV and his mistress Mme de Montespan, the king's favourite son, appointed, among many other military and civil posts, Governor of Languedoc in 1682 and Grand Master of the Artillery in 1694, in which capacity he signed this commission.
