Lot 1330: FRANÇOIS-CHRISTOPHE-ARMAND TOUSSAINT | Deux Esclaves Indiens Porte Torchères
October 26, 2016
London, United KingdomLive Auction
Description: signed and dated: AD TOUSSAINT 1850
Overall, the condition of both figures is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The gilt patina is deliberately rubbed to achieve a painterly effect. Both figures are cast in sections, and joints are very slightly visible to the proper right upper arm of the female and to the proper left upper arm of the male figure. There is some minor greening to the bronze, consistent with the material, including to the male figure's proper left upper arm, the proper left pectoral, the proper left upper thigh and the proper left foot, and to a section between the proper left arm and the side of the female figure. There is some dark staining to the bronzes in areas, in particular to the backs. There is some minor white residue to the back of the male's head. There are some minor nicks and scratches to both bronzes, notably to the top of the male's head on the proper right side. The gilt candle holders are in a good condition, with minor tarnishing to the gilding, particularly in the crevices. Both candelabras are drilled for electricity through the bronze bases.
