Description:

FRANK DICKSEE (British, 1853-1928) "OPHELIA". Outstanding large life size oil on canvas portrait of a young maiden with long brown hair wearing a white dress with gold flower leaf design. She is seated on a rock next to water with trees, grass and bushes. She has a daisy and violet wild flower wreath in hair and she holds several wild flowers in her hand. Superbly rendered in the best Pre-Raphaelite tradition. An outstanding example of this artist's work. Signed lower right with artist monogram and dated "1889 A.R.A.". Titled and signed on reverse of canvas. Housed in a fine Watts-style gilt wood frame. SIZE: 41" x 34-1/2". CONDITION: Very good. Light craquelure, one small edge chip at frame edge.
