Description: FRANZ WEST B.1947 PLEONASM papier-mâché, plaster, acrylic, plastic, tape and glue with wood and metal base overall: 69 1/8 by 44 1/2 by 37 1/2 in. 175.6 by 113 by 95.3 cm. Executed in 1999.

Notes: "Early on I realized that the purely visual experience of an artwork was somehow insufficient. I wanted to go beyond the purely optical and include tactical qualities as well. My works aren't things one just looks at, but things that the viewer is invited to handle. There have been many theories of art that try to break down the border between art and the world, but I don't find such attempts to be particularly meaningful. Art remains art." Franz West

Provenance: David Zwirner, New York
Acquired by the present owner from the above in July 2000

Exhibited: Chicago, The University of Chicago, The Renaissance Society, Franz West: Pre-Semblance and The Everyday, May – June 2000
