Description: Artist: ANONYMOUS Size: 42 1/2 x 28 1/4 in./108 x 71.7 cm W. J. Morgan, Cleveland Frederick Warde was an English-style American actor, traveling around the country with Edwin Booth's troupe to perform a variety of well-worn (and well-loved) tragedies. Here, he appears in the titular role in Virginius, the central panel showing the moment when he stabs his daughter in order to avoid her being taken as a slave by Appius Claudius. Morgan was best known for high quality theatrical posters and advertising cards during this period.
