Lot 67: FRENCH SCHOOL, (CIRCA 1800), STUDY OF FIVE STATESMEN
October 11, 2012
Philadelphia, PA, USALive Auction
STUDY OF FIVE STATESMEN
Charcoal and white chalk on blue-gray paper
11 1/8 x 16 1/2 in. (28.3 x 42cm)
/spanPrivate Collection, New Jersey.
Paper is fully laid down to a sheet, which is in turn affixed to undermat. Within the outer edges at top, left and bottom edges, and at the outer edge at bottom of sheet, there is pale mat burn. The very outer edges of the sheet have time staining. Parts of the top and right edges have small missing areas of paper, particularly the outer right edge (the latter also appears to be unevenly trimmed toward the top). When covered by the overmat and frame, neither the mat burn lines nor the ueven paper edge losses are visible. Drawing itself appears to be in generally good overall condition, though within the image area is some generally unobtrusive pale discoloration and some slight spotting, including a spot approx. the size of a pinhead at outer bottom left edge.
Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging. Interested bidders are strongly encouraged to request a condition report on any lots upon which they intend to bid, prior to placing a bid. All transactions are governed by Freeman's Conditions of Sale.
