After his 1980 New York group touring exhibition, his reputation was firmly solidified. Canadian artists were becoming increasingly known for their skill as master colourists, with one New York Times critic praising Iskowitz as "extremely gifted in selecting and arranging lyrically beautiful colors that coalesce into radiant composition." Iskowitz immigrated to Toronto in 1949. After surviving the hardships of World War II, his work of the early 1950s was a cathartic closure to his wartime memories. Iskowitz's work is a product of reforming and evolving ideas, which he developed over the course of his time in Canada. After a brief sombre period, he was soon producing the colourful and joyous canvases that became synonymous with the artist's style in later decades. An example of this expressive period is seen in Red Violet-A, where vibrant colours of red and violet fade in and out of fresh pale blue tones.
