Notes: Non frequentissimo il formato ovale nella produzione dell'artista, poco più di quindici opere sulle oltre seicento registrate dal suo catalogo generale, con una maggior incidenza proprio negli anni tra il 1956 e il 1957. Appartenuta a Roland Penrose, esponente dell'internazionale surrealista e tra i fondatori dell'Ica, che nel 1957 presenta la personale di Capogrossi proprio all'Institute of Contemporary Art in Londra. "The intricate circus of signs that surround us in modern cities......." è una fase che ben si adatta a quest'opera che, dopo la mostra, entrerà nella sua collezione.
