Giuseppe Casciaro (1861-1941)
Giuseppe Casciaro, who was born in Puglia, received art lessons with Paolo Emilio Stasi during school time. Afterwards he enrolled at the College of Fine Arts in Naples, studying under the guidance of Morelli and Palizzi. Moreover, he learned the technique of landscape painting in pastels under Francesco Paolo Michetti. He created mainly shorelines and views of his hometown Ortelle. After the turn of the century, he traveled to Paris, where he met Giuseppe De Nittis and his circle. Some time later he was appointed professor at the Urbino Art Academy. He also taught pastel painting to members of the Savoy Royal house. Casciaro has exhibited his works in Europe and Argentina. (cko)
