Description: 5th century BC. A bronze leech brooch with round-section bow, single-coil spring and integral pin, swept catchplate; the bow with serpent modelled in the round coiled about the shank. Cf. Hattatt, R. Brooches of Antiquity, Oxford, 1987, item 1355 for type. 12 grams, 56mm (2 1/4"). Acquired on the London art market prior to 1980.
