Description: Apulian, 4th century BC. A blackware ceramic lekythos with tiered base, slender neck, trumpet mouth, D-section strap handle to the shoulder; reserved palmette below the shoulder, frame of scrolled tendrils and flowers surrounding the bust of a lady of fashion with stephane to her hair. 184 grams, 17.5cm (7"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired by his grandfather in the 1920s; thence by descent.
