Label worn and with small chips, very discreetly rebacked with original spine laid on, text-block tight and square. Map with long closed tear discreetly repaired with tissue, some light fraying to margins, and some small stains. Small former owner's bookplate and booksellers label to front pastedown, else contents quite clean and bright with only an occasional spot of light foxing. Housed in slip-case. Very Good. **************************************** The first British publication of the greatly enlarged edition of Greenhow's earlier MEMOIR..., first issued as a government document in 1840. "Among contemporary writers on the Oregon Question, and on the events of Oregon history on which the question depended, Greenhow deserves first place" - Eberstadt. The map for this edition, entitled "Map of the Western & Middle Portions of North America, to illustrate the History of California, Oregon, and other Countries on the North-West Coast of America," is new to the enlarged edition.
