Cont. cf. w. raised bands, dec. gilt backs, gilt coat of arms of Groningen on both sides, surrounded by two gilt dec. borders. (Top of spines a bit dam., labels (w. cf.) removed, corners bumped/dam., prize and portr. of Wesseling lack, slightly browned). The most admired edition and rarely used as 'prize books', cf. Dibdin I, 497f; Sandys II, 453f; Schweiger I, 95; Spoelder, 585 (Gron. 3). - Wesseling (1692-1764) studied as a disciple of Gronovius and Hemsterhuis in Franeker and Leiden. He was a professor at Franeker for 11 years and in Utrecht for 20 years.
