Description: Hallmarked Silver Regimental Shooting Medal Awarded to Lance Corporal J Stevens 7th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders Who Was Awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal and Killed in Action 12th October 1916, fine hallmarked silver medal engraved to the reverse “2nd BATT SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS BATTALION RIFLE MEETING 1912. “THE NINNES MEDAL” HIGHEST AGGREGATE CORPORALS WON BY LCE CPL J STEVENS SCORE 34”. Regimental badge to the centre of the medal. Birmingham hallmarks. Company Sergeant Major J Stevens award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) appeared in the London Gazette 22nd September 1916 and the citation is as follows, “For conspicuous gallantry during operations. He led a bombing party against an enemy's strong point, which was holding up the attack. His party broke through and bombed up the enemy's trenches in face of strong opposition. He has shown great bravery and coolness in action”. Killed in action on the 12th October 1916 and commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
