Description: 3 vol. only (of 4), lacking vol.IV, 175 chromolithographed plates, a few with a little hand-colouring, booklabels of Francis Hemming to front pastedowns, a little faint foxing and offsetting throughout, some finger soiling, stiching showing a little, contemporary half sheep, gilt, rubbed along joints and at spine ends, vol.III upper joint splitting, spines partly scorched, vol.II a little worn, [Nissen BBI 806], 4to , 1846. Arthur Francis Hemming (1893-1964), civil servant and entomologist, expert in nomenclature, and prolific author of papers on taxonomy; he found an error in Nabokov's classification of the genus Pseudothecla , showing that the name was inadmissible; with Nabokov's permission he renamed the genus Nabokovia .
