Description: HENRY GEORGE GAWTHORN (1879-1941) REDCAR. Circa 1930.
40x50 inches, 101 1/2x127 cm. The Dangerfield Printing Co., Ltd., London.
Condition B+: airbrushing in margins; creases and restoration in margins and image; repaired pin holes in corners.
In many of his finest posters Gawthorn employed his signature, stylized graphic ability to depict the privileged classes engaging in their exclusive and elegant pastimes. His Art Deco inspired illustrations were largely executed using flat colors in a manner reminiscent of Ludwig Hohlwein and Fred Taylor. For this beach resort in England's northeast, he depicts bathers, beach-goers and the Redcar pier. Not in Furness. rare.
