Description: Made by Professor Herbert Zeitner. Ridged dagger blade with ricassos. The guard is silver, both sides of the quillon bear a gilt Luftwaffe eagle above laurel branches in typical form for Zeitner, the pommel with a gilt laurel frieze set with lapis lazuli. Ivory grip (small hairline). Silver scabbard with chain hanger, both sides perforate with blue Morocco leather underlay. The lower half of the locket with fineness punch "835" and "HZ" master’s mark. Dedication engraving "Dem Major Gordon Gollob in Würdigung besonderer Verdienste um die Luftwaffe - 30.8.1942 - Hermann Göring" (To Major Gordon Gollob in appreciation of his outstanding achievements with the Luftwaffe 30.8.1942). Length 33.5 cm. Produced in the style of the famous hunting presentation dagger by Professor Zeitner, to our knowledge the Gollob dagger is the only known example of its type bearing a dedication. Fighter pilot Gordon Gollob (1912 - 1987) received the Honour Goblet for Outstanding Achievement in the Air War after his 24th victory on the Eastern Front in July 1941. The Knight’s Cross followed after his 34th victory in September 1941, and the Oak Leaves in October after his 47th victory. After 107 victories he received the Swords in June 1942 as commander of JG 77, and as the first pilot to reach 150 victories on 30 August 1942 he was awarded the Diamonds.
