Description: HRH Diana, Princess of Wales - an important and rare Royal presentation silver apple, given by Diana to her dresser, Fay Appleby, to commemorate their visit to New York, 'The Big Apple', from 1st - 3rd February 1989. It is believed to be one of only four made and is naturalistically cast in silver and engraved with the Princess's crowned D monogram and dated 1st - 3rd February 1989. The apple is hallmarked on the stem - London 1989, maker J.C. It measures 8cm high. Fay Appleby accompanied Princess Diana along with three other key members of her staff to New York for a highly successful and high profile visit, designed to highlight the Princess's interest in social causes, including a visit to an Aids hospital and to promote British trade. The lot is sold with the original itinerary of the departure and arrival of the Royal party to New York in Concorde and Fay Appleby's reference letter.
