Ian Fleming (1908-1964) was an English naval intelligence officer, journalist and author, the creator of both James Bond and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. In 2008 he was ranked fourteenth on a list of "The 50 greatest British writers since 1945" by the Times newspaper.
This black and white photograph measuring approximately 4½" x 3½" shows Ian Fleming posing for the camera in a white shirt and black bow tie. Fleming has signed the photograph at the lower right 'Ian Fleming'.
It's an exceptionally rare item. Our research suggests that there are only 5 known Ian Fleming signed photos in existence. The photograph has a number of bends and folds but with none affecting the signature.
The autograph was obtained by Freda Davies (nee Maddy), Housekeeper of The Rookery at Aspley Guise, Bedfordshire where Fleming, a Naval Officer, was involved with the counter propaganda team controlled by Sefton Delmer. Delmer led the propaganda campaign against Hitler by radio from England and was named in the Nazi's black book for immediate arrest after their invasion of England.
Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the grandson of Freda Davies in addition to a Paul Fraser Collectibles Certificate of Authenticity and lifetime money back guarantee.
