Description: Family Chinese Chippendale Mahogany Open-Arm Chairattributed to Charleston, South Carolina, 1765-1775, mahogany throughout with later cypress plank seat, rich reddish-brown color with traces of early surface, 39-1/2 x 28 x 20 in. (17 in. at seat), lacking finials, seat and center stretcher replaced, angle irons added inside frame, carriage bolts now pierced through arm supports, patch and repair at top of right leg, pins added to joints of front legs, other minor finish spotting and surface flaws Provenance: Illustrated in Rauschenberg and Bivins note "probable ownership by Daniel Huger Horry of Hampton Plantation, thence to...the Lucas Family. By the early 20th century this chair and its mate were separated with this one moving to the Wedge Plantation located near McClellanville, not far from Hampton".

Condition Report: lacking finials, seat and center stretcher replaced, angle irons added inside frame, carriage bolts now pierced through arm supports, patch and repair at top of right leg, pins added to joints of front legs, other minor finish spotting and surface flaws
