Description: 17th-18th century AD. A gilt bronze oil lamp of South Indian workmanship, a stepped ringed baluster with broad bracketed arms of lobed foliate form, incised with lotus bud and flower motifs; the round mouth with an incised lotus petal rim and Tamil inscription Kalyanam (Marriage"). 1.7 kg, 35cm (13 3/4"). Property of a gentleman; from a Mayfair, London, UK, gallery; formerly with Sotheby's, London, 6 April 2011, lot 368. This lamp would have been part of a bride's trousseau and would have been used to burn camphor during religious ceremonies.

Condition Report: Fine condition, usage wear to gilding.
