Description: February 1929 MILANO. 1 Azione da L.100. green, brown, black, red. #600000. No 2158/599958. Nicola Romeo (1876-1938) was an engineer from Naples (but he also studied in Liège, Belgium). In 1911, he founded the Ing. Nicola Romeo & Co. At first, the company produced machines and equipment for the mining industry. As the company was a success, Romeo wanted to expand and hence acquired a majority of the Milan-based car-manufacturing company A.L.F.A. (= Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) in 1915. Three years later, he was the sole owner of the company and renamed it S.A. Italiana Ing. Nicola Romeo. Since 1911, A.L.F.A. had been involved in car manufacturing and racing, and ever since it kept its reputation high for building expensive sports cars. At first, it manufactured French Darracq cars, but it soon started building its own models. The first car carrying the famous Alfa Romeo badge came later: in 1921 the Torpedo 20/30 HP was launched. In 1929, Enzo Ferrari founded the Alfa Romeo racing team, it would take him another 10 years before he made Ferrari an independent company from Alfa Romeo. The company became state-owned in 1932 and this remained so until 1986 when it became part of the Fiat Group. This Alfa Romeo share must be extremely rare ; it is likely that very few survived due to the company's nationalization 3 years later. Rarity 10.
