Vienna, Vienna, AustriaLive Auction
Lacquer technique, gold and inlay, horn. Japan, 19th cent.
Three-tiered, black-brown lacquer inro with the depiction of an owl fukuro, sitting in the dark night on a branch. It is generously painted with gold and the eyes are inlaid with greenish luminous mother-of-pearl, effectively defining the bird-of-prey lurking on its victims. On the other side are trunk and branches of a willow yanagi, as well as a little fluttering bird. Traces of use.
The netsuke of ivory-colored horn offers the god of fortune Fukurokuju with tall forehead. He sits with bent knees, is bearded and the eyes closed. Fukurokuju is a deity for long life, luck and wealth. Cord channel himotoshi through his body, as well another through his head. Patina, very good condition.
HEIGHT INRO 7,2 CM, NETSUKE 7,5 CM
