Glass paste intaglio gems imitate more valuable intaglios and were widespread in the ancient Roman Empire. The intaglio of a quadruped (perhaps a horse?) is well worn and set inside a stepped oval bezel, the band made of hammered gold with beaded wire along outer edges.
