A SCARCE 36-BORE PERCUSSION SPORTING-RIFLE, MODEL ''KENTUCKY TYPE'', no visible serial number,
circa 1840 and made for export, with heavy blued octagonal 45 3/4in. rifled barrel, signed at the breech ''J. BROOK'', dove-tailed bead fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight with platinum line to slider and locking device, plain top-tang, borderline, scroll and gamebird engraved bar-action lock signed ''J. BROOK HASTINGS'', American style walnut full-stock with straight-hand ''Roman Nose'' type combless butt chequered at the wrist (cracked through behind lock), brass furniture including complex shaped and pierced patch-box, crescent heel-plate with toe and heel bars, trigger-guard bow with raised finger tang, the capped fore-end with two ramrod pipes and throat, possible original ramrod,


Other Notes: John Brook traded from 3 High Street, Hastings, from 1839-1851, moving then to 2 Commercial Road where his son, Jeremiah joined him in 1858. Jeremiah kept the business going till 1869 after his father passed away in 1866. They specialised in export arms for the Americas
