30in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels (in 2016), the rib re-engraved ''J. PURDEY. 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET. LONDON.'', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, Purdey patent thumbhole underlever, patent no. 1104 of 2nd may 1863 (first pattern) slim serpentine fences, non-rebounding back-action locks with finely carved hammers, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, the underside engraved ''PURDEY''S PATENT'', retaining traces of colour-hardening and finish (some likely renewed), 14 3/8in. highly-figured stock including steel buttplate, weight 6lb. 13oz.
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed in 1865 as No.1 of a pair, and was sold to a ''Brocklebank''
