Once a very popular collector's book, which was still reprinted in 1671
Colorful collection of monuments and peculiarities from the history of the Church and the world, with many references to the history of the reformers and scholars, and - in a miraculous time - numerous reports of miracles, miscarriages, strange and ominous events, prophecies and so forth. A chronical account of the first 1500 years of our chronology, while the outgoing 16th century is the subject of the second and final volume. Some of the woodcuts are by Jost Amman and the title woodcut is by Jakob Lederlein.
The books are in good condition, according to age. The pages are discolored, showing foxing as well as water and crease marks, tears and traces of worm damage. There are some text underlines and notes to the margins. The second volume shows slight loosening of the binding and one of the pages has been strengthened on the back. The book covers are somewhat worn, consistent with age. (cko)
