SOFT JUNE signed, titled and dated "June 1972" on the reverse, also titled on two gallery labels on the stretcher on the reverse acrylic on canvas 165.1 by 259.1 cm. 65 by 102 in. As the years pass, Bush emerges more and more clearly as one of the pillars of Painters Eleven, along with Town, Nakamura and early Ronald. His absolute sense of colour, evident in a work like Soft June, and his intuitive sense for texture, set him somewhat apart from his fellow artists, whose preoccupations took them along different paths. Bush's paintings usually had their origins in some minute domestic subject -- in this case in flowers in his garden in the north end of Toronto.
