NOTE
The figures of the two saints are taken by Callot from separate studies and placed together on this page, perhaps with the intention of using them for another print. The St. Sebastian can be compared with Ternois no. 1177 which is a study, in reverse, for Callot's print The Martyrdom of St. Sebastian; St. Bartholomew compares closely with Ternois no. 1215, which is a study for one in the series of small prints of the Apostles (see D. Ternois, Jacques Callot, Paris 1962). The style and technique of the figures is totally characteristic of Callot's small sketches related to prints. What are unusual and especially delightful are the studies of cats at the right edge of the page.
