TUNIS signed with the studio stamp and titled on a label on the reverse oil on panel 13.3 by 17.2 cm. 5 1/4 by 6 3/4 in. Morrice spent the winters of 1911 and 1912 in Tunis and Morocco, a large part of the time in the company of Henri Matisse. Matisse recollects: "I passed two winters in Tangiers in company with Morrice. You know, the artist with delicate eye, so pleasing with a touching tenderness in the rendering of landscapes of closely allied values".
